South Central Iowa Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO will be sponsoring the annual Labor Day Festival (Solidarity Fest)

(Des Moines, Iowa) South Central Iowa Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO will be sponsoring the annual Labor Day Festival (Solidarity Fest) on Monday, September 7th. This year’s event will be held in 4-H building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa.
The parade will be led by Grand Marshall, Secretary of State, Michael Mauro, and Parade Marshall Senator Jack Hatch. Iowa Governor Chet Culver, and Congressman Leonard Boswell and other elected officials will also be attending. The parade is for affiliated unions, and invited guests, and will begin at the Iowa State Capitol and will end at the State Fairgrounds. The theme for this year’s parade is “America Needs Healthcare Now.”
The celebration will kick-off with the parade at 11:00 a.m. in front of the State Capitol, going east to the Iowa State Fairgrounds on Grand avenue. Activities at the 4-H building after the parade include X-treme Games for the children and live music provided by the American Federation of Musicians local #75. Campbell’s Concessions will offer a hotdog and chips for $2.50, or a hamburger and chips for $2.75. Refreshments will be free, thanks to donations by local unions in Central Iowa.
The public, who support the causes of organized labor, are welcome to attend this event. No admission cost.
