Secretary of State Mauro Releases Updated Voter Registration Totals

DES MOINES – Secretary of State Michael A. Mauro, today, announced updated statewide voter registration totals as of the first of this year.
The Secretary of State’s office reports a total of 2.17 million people are registered to vote. Of those registered voters, 745,412 are registered as Democrats and 629,495 are registered as Republicans. There are 796,905 registered as “No Party” and 1,436 as “Other”.
Democrats have gained just over 100,000 registered voters since January 2008. Republicans have added about 20,000 and “No Party” voters have declined by about 13,000.
Over 113,000 more people are currently registered from a year ago.
“To see the voter rolls continue to expand with new registrations after the election shows Iowans remain engaged in the process and will continue to make an impact in the 2010 election,” said Secretary of State Mauro.
