MIDWEST SECRETARIES OF STATE TO ANNOUNCE EXPANDED MILITARY VOTING PROGRAM ON MONDAY
DES MOINES – On Monday morning, Secretary of State Michael A. Mauro will join fellow Midwest Secretaries of State in holding a news conference to announce major improvements to military voting programs which affect the men and women serving our country.
The changes are part of the Defense Reauthorization Act (MOVE Act), passed by Congress in October, and will be in place by the 2010 General Election.
Secretary Mauro, Secretary Robin Carnahan of Missouri, Secretary Ron Thornburgh of Kansas, and Secretary John Gale of Nebraska will meet at the National World War I Memorial in Kansas City to discuss the changes and affirm their commitment to ensuring that all eligible voters in the military can conveniently and securely cast a ballot.
Secretary Mauro will be in Kansas City for the Midwest Election Officials Conference (MEOC). The conference is hosted every four years by four states – Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas.
