Mauro Speaks at Capitol Youth Day (see video)
April 8, 2009
Des Moines – Iowa Secretary of State Michael Mauro addressed hundreds of students at Capitol Youth Day this year. This annual event is held at the Iowa Capitol and is designed to help students learn more about state government.
Mauro challenged those attending to better their lives by:
- Enlarging their vision – dare to dream!
- Developing a healthy self-image.
- Discovering the power of their thoughts and words.
- Letting go of the past.
- Finding strength through adversity, and
- Making the choice to be happy.
He also emphasized the satisfaction that can be achieved by learning to give, helping others and participating in community service.
In addition to Mauro’s talk, the students participated in a mock election, met lawmakers, toured the capitol and enjoyed a lunch.
